IWSG: Gone Roaming

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

Posting: The first Wednesday of every month is officially Insecure Writer’s Support Group day. Post your thoughts on your own blog. Talk about your doubts and the fears you have conquered. Discuss your struggles and triumphs. Offer a word of encouragement for others who are struggling. Visit others in the group and connect with your fellow writer - aim for a dozen new people each time - and return comments. This group is all about connecting! Be sure to link to this page and display the badge in your post. And please be sure your avatar links back to your blog! Otherwise, when you leave a comment, people can't find you to comment back.

Let’s rock the neurotic writing world!

Our Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and hashtag is #IWSG.

The awesome co-hosts for the September 3 posting of the IWSG are Kim Lajevardi, Natalie Aguirre, Nancy Gideon, and Diedre Knight!

Every month, we announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.

Remember, the question is optional!

September 3 question - What are your thoughts on using AI, such as GPChat, Raptor, and others with your writing? Would you use it for research, storybible, or creating outlines\beats?

Short answer for this one: grammar-checkers, yes. Anything else? No. Not even if some of them might help make my work better. It's partly a protest against what is being done with AI (like stealing our work so it can do the fun creative things and leaving us poor humans to clean the damn toilets), and partly an environmental issue: AI uses a LOT of energy. It also uses a lot of water, and a lot of the big data centers are in places like AZ, where there is too much heat and too little water, and they still make electricity with... coal?

More to the point for me right now, the Writer Report!

The New Book: thanks to everyone who has been and is helping to make the launch of Edited Out a success!

The Next Thing: Writing-wise, the next thing is plotting the new book, while maybe... naw, none of that is going to happen much, because I'm on my way to Iceland! That's also why I may not respond quickly to your comments and posts--I will do as much as I can while I sit in airports today!

Seriously, though, if the spirit moves me during my trip (there will no doubt be some days when bad weather confines me to the interior of my tiny rented campervan!), I'll be working on the new book (I do have some ideas that started to percolate while I was hiking) and playing with short fiction. I'm open to suggestions for fun flash fiction to play with--leave your ideas in the comments!

While I'm away, I'm leaving about one post a week to keep you from missing me too much :)

And some more pretty pictures from the last adventure, as I am off on the next: morning in the mountains

  6. You're the first one to mention the enormous amount of energy that AI takes. The generation of that energy has a huge, negative impact on our environment in general. In some instances, it directly impacts the lives of those living near the facility. I'm thinking of a specific example in Memphis with Musk's excessive use of air polluting generators to power an AI plant .

It's always heartening to see a tent camped on a mountain!

    1. And… frustrating! Word Press is denying me access so I can’t comment on some
Of the WP blogs today. Not from my phone anyway.
